Tell me a bit about yourselves, who are you and what do you do?
I’m Max and I play guitar and construct riffs in Incentives.
Tell me a little bit about your upcoming EP, ‘Dusk’
‘Dusk’ is what we’ve been working hard on behind the scenes since we released our single ‘Self-Decay’ back in January of 2015. It’s basically the culmination of all of our biggest musical influences mixed into something that really represents where we are and what we want to be as a band right now. It released on June 30th and is available on iTunes, Spotify and Bandcamp.
What inspired it? – What were the biggest cha
llenges along the way? – What are you most proud of?
Personally, I listen to a wide variety of music and most of it I can draw inspiration from when sitting down to write our own music. But I feel like the most influential would be Counterparts, Architects and Napoleon.
Probably the biggest challenge we ran into is one that has been a bit of recurring issue for the band and that’s member changes; we lost our old drummer just as pre-production was getting serious. This set us back a long way as we had to find someone new and get back into the swing of things but I can safely say our line-up is the most solid it’s ever been!
I think I’m most proud of the DIY nature we handled the release of the record. On the artwork side of things, Kyle’s been in charge of organizing and creating different pieces to help with the launch including the cover artwork for both ‘Corrode’ and ‘Dusk’. I rallied in a bunch of friends to help produce the music video for ‘Better Off’ and set to work making various teasers for things. And we’ve also self booked and managed our upcoming headline tour. Doing all this ourselves has saved us a heap of cash that we can invest elsewhere and has given us the most control and input possible in all elements of the release.
Kyle, how did you create the cover art, was it something spontaneous or did you have it set in your head for a long time?
It was a bit of both in truth; I had been thinking along the lines of double exposure for quite some time but then worked that concept into the themes of the EP. It kind of symbolises a guy going on a mental journey of sorts, which is very much represented in the lyrics I wrote.
What are you currently working on and what can we expect to see next?
At the moment we’re focusing on getting ourselves out and around the country (and hopefully the world) to as many places and people as possible, but writing for the next record is definitely on the agenda and already underway.
